Babies in Bristol

Bristol is deservedly chosen as an ideal place to raise young children by many parents, ourselves included!  With lots of parks and attractions catering from tiny babies upwards, there's plenty to do no matter what the weather.  Below are a few of our favourite activities and haunts, do let us know if there's a favourite of yours that you would like added to the list!

Papajii's House of Teas
: New on Whiteladies Road, this is a tea shop with a difference.  By day it serves fresh home-cooked food, generous afternoon teas and also boasts one of the most extensive fine tea selections in Bristol, all prepared by Tea Master Andy.  In the evenings, cocktails and dinner are served in a more adult environment.  Highchairs and child-sized portions are available, and the establishment is very breastfeeding friendly.

PlaySpace: Not the cheapest soft play in town, but by far the most child-friendly and also pleasant for parents.  Food served is much better than the usual 'kid's food', and there is usually plenty of space to sit down apart from on rainy days during school holidays, when it can get a little busy.  Most mornings a toddler activity is run by the staff in the craft room.  Can also be hired for parties.  The toddler section is particularly good for those still wobbly on their legs!

@Bristol: Smaller than it used to be, but the Animate It! section is worth the visit alone.  Prices are high, so it is worth buying a season pass.  Usually fairly quiet during term time, and younger kids are encouraged to interract with the help of staff.  Local restaurants are expensive and the choice in the cafe is limited, so picnics are a good choice, especially in warmer weather.

St Werburghs City Farm: Tucked away in a little vale near the railway line, this is one of our childrens' favourite local places to visit.  The cafe is straight from Lord of the Rings, with a small play area more suited to older children attached.  The farm has a nice range of animals, including a pig who seems to produce endless litters of piglets.  Staffed by volunteers who are friendly and happy to chat about what they are working on.  The Farm is surrounded by allotments, and just round the corner from the Better Food Company, who serve delicious food and sell locally grown produce.

Eskimo Kids: Toy shop and hairdresser for kids, all in one shop in Clifton Village.  Specially designed chairs with TVs and DVDs to keep children distracted at a very reasonable price.  Can be booked online as well.   (Recommended by Larissa at Giggleicious)
